"The excavation is for the most part going according to schedule, though the lower levels are taking more time. The need for proper equipment and laborers are a bottleneck.”

It was only natural Nicodemus thought to himself, given the dangerous and unstable nature of the work that had been done in the lower levels of the research department. If he was being honest, they’d been lucky to make as good time as they had without any serious accidents. Of course it would not be smart to point out, that at times they’d been one foot on the wrong rune away from a new ground zero.

“Well done, you’ve done an excellent job, I’ll forward your report and look into the matter of more specialized equipment.” The sorcerer promised, dismissing the foreman.

Most likely they could put more of the golems to use along with summoned creatures to do the real heavy lifting. While neither was strictly speaking expendable, it was safer and quicker. It would have to wait until night though. Most of the summoning rituals Nicodemus could call on worked better under the night sky, and it might be for the better that the citizens didn’t look too closely at them. There was a time to showcase just what manner of creatures the college could call on and to flash their power, with so much in ruin that time was not now. Literal nightmares working on rebuilding the college would not do.

Currently most people seemed to see the college in a favorable light, true it was one of theirs that caused the damage. But clearly he was a rogue sorcerer one with a horrible past and a case of madness. He’d been a broken tool long before he got here, which was true. How the upper parts of the college wanted to spin the whole fight Nicodemus didn’t care about. It wasn’t his department so he left it to the pr-wizards to do their job. Speaking of his department, Nicodemus took in the details of the worksite, he felt like he was back in the field. Working to uncover ancient tombs, not working to digg up his workplace in his own city. There was a dozen people working just in his area, most were finishing up for the day, but a few stranglers were still securing equipment and preparing for the following day. Nicodemus could already imagining the building raising like a phoenix from, well, the ashes.

Most of the college was already a long way towards being rebuilt and repurposed. While it could be argued that it was less than before, the fire had given them the chance to rethink a lot of the layouts. It had been literally set in stone for ages, and now that stone was melted or broken. While Nicodemus could still feel a pang of sadness for the warding and knowledge that had been lost, he was looking forward both to making new warding schemes of his own design. As well as getting the chance to redo the long dark hallways the college was known for. As much as the gothic aesthetic part of the college had, had going for it was good for commanding respect and frightening peasants it was a new age now. It would be a time with proper lighting for all and proper ventilation, as far as the budget would allow. Architecture had come along way since the foundation for the college had been laid and it was long over due some changes.

It wouldn’t be cheap or quick, but a lot of the citizens had willingly contributed both time and money towards the cause. It would have shocked him a few months ago, it still did. While saying the college was loved by the general public was stretching the truth far enough to make a road from Elbion to the empire in the south, it had always been a source of pride. Not that the reason why really mattered. Along with that, he suspected there had been a lot promises made to a lot of people, both internally and externally. Most of them, the dark gray variety of promises, Nicodemus assumed. He didn’t really care what shady deals had been made, but he really hoped it wouldn’t interfere with his work too much. The whole thing had already set his research back months if not years.

Reactions: Kara Orin
Jerik’s attack on the College gave a bad taste in the mouths of the Merchant Council. Not only was the attack highly visible, but the City was getting reports of the damage from the laborers the College had to invite into the walls. In addition, they were describing the strange, horrifying creatures being summoned to assist as heavy labor.

With a growing Empire to the west and an increasingly aggressive Vel Anir to the south, the City grew wary of the College being an internal threat at a time when external ones were growing. The City had no formal control over the College, after all.

Those the employed Kara’s family made their concerns clear. That they felt it was becoming a time bomb. That the average citizen could not view those things known as gargoyles as anything other than the product of some unknown, horrendous human experimentation. How they dressed up literal monsters as professors.

Yet they still made a request of Kara. With the need for laborers, materials, and equipment, they could smell an opportunity for gold. Since she was a student and could freely enter the College, Kara was given a sealed letter with some insight on what they hope to achieve.

Kara did not know who of the Foard oversaw the reconstruction efforts, so she went to a Maester at a desk in the antechamber.

I have a letter from the Cairou River Trading Company,” Kara told the Maester, “For the professor in charge of restoring the College.
